Good morning all,

I am currently in the reading stage and have not bought a single piece of equipment as of yet. I plan to read, read, read for at least the next six months before making any purchases and I am currently reading "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist". Please excuse me if this seems like a a dumb question but.....

Is it possible to start out with a "fish only" tank then slowly upgrade that same tank over time to a full blown out reef tank as my experience increases?

I am thinking that I would have to start with a completely new setup and tank to pursue reefs but I would be delighted to know that I can upgrade and change over in the same tank as my interest and experience grows.

Hiya Mike..

First off Welcome to Aquraia Central..

Answer to your question is Yes..The only thing to think about in the meantime while you have your setup as a FOWLR or Fish Only, is equipment..Do you intend to buy the equipment to reef standard from the start, or start out just to support fish only?

Good book your reading, it is also a wealth of knowledge like the forums here..

Nice to see your taking your time

Niko

If you stock your tank with fish that are reef safe you can add corals and such as your experience grows and you get more comfortable and still keep your fish.
