:help: Tank is about 6 weeks old......Fish in method of cycling, with 2 goldfish......everything is and has been perfect......right where it's supposed to be. Used the Topfin water conditioner and bacteriasupplement. Water has been clear since day one. Maybe very slightly cloudy for a day or 2. Yesterday, i did a 25% water change and again added the recommended amount of water conditioner as per the instructions on water changes. Today, the water is very cloudy. Tested the water and everything is still right where it's supposed to be. Any ideas????

How big is the tank and what are the results of you water tests?

It could be a bacterial bloom from overfeeding the goldfish. Can't be sure since we need more info.

The tank is a 29 gallon tall, the GH is 60, the KH is 60, the PH is 6.5, the Nitrite is 0,5 and the Nitrate is is about 10

Does the water appear clear when the lights are off? If so, it is particulate matter from inproper filter maintenance or stirred up gravel. The light is reflection off the particles. What filtration system are you using?

nitrite should be 0, ph is too low. most likely its a bacterial bloom. these will go away by themselves. to speed it up, you can keep the lights off.

The filter in an Aquaclear.....for up to 70 gallon tanks. Still appears cloudy when the light is off, so i'll leave it off and see what happens. Thank you very much guys, much appreciated

ph is too low a pH of 6.5 is certainly not too low and suggesting that it is, leads to one thinking they should 'change' their pH. definitely NOT a good idea since attempts to manipulate water chemistry almost always leads to instability, which is very injurious to fish.

everything is still right where it's supposed to be no. where it's supposed to be is ZERO ammonia, ZERO nitrite and some level of nitrate which is preferably ten ppm or less.

since you have evidence of nitrite and your tank is 6 weeks running, there's a good chance your filter is still cycling. this could account for your cloudy water.

did a 25% water change i'd suggest 50% water changes.

If i do a 50% water change, should i add water conditioner or no????

you need to add a conditioner (dechlorinator) EVERY time you do a water change. add the amount of conditioner which is necessary for the amount of water you add.

I'm guessing its an algae bloom......the water appears to have a slight green tint to it

Is your tank near a window? How long are the lights on a day? If you suspect this, make sure the filter is running at peak performance and do a 50% water change. The next day, do a 25% water change. Keep the tank lights off until it clears up. Wash all of your decorations in hot water and wipe down the sides of the tank. Keep doing 25% water changes while thoroughly cleaning the gravel until the water clears up. Then only run the light no more than 12 hours a day. Preferrably less than that. Maybe 8-10 hours, if possible.
