I got my ebo-jager from big als today and on the heater it says "do not immerse beyond water level", and then it shows the water level on the heater. I thought these heaters were completely submersible?

It means up. Don't have the water level BELOW that line. Good choice though. They're durable as all hell.

Thanks. I noticed it was quite a rugged heater, and it was already set on 77 so I wont even need to adjust it. The adjuster knob looks a little small though and I read online that they can be hard to adjust.

I noticed that on mine too, but I immersed it anyhow, six months later still no signs of water seeping past the seals, so go ahead and immerse it. Good accurate heater and doesn't make that loud annoying click sound everytime it turns on and off like other heaters .

I posed the same question to Big-Als when I purchased my Ebo-Jager. Apparently Canada's equivalent to the UL listing is stricter than the UL, so they are required to place that line on the heaters in order to sell them in Canada. They are fine to be submersed though.

Uh, guys.....I think you are all confusing submerse (underwater) with immerse (sticking out of water). VC had the idea. Heh, I've done things like that too often to name!:p

Why does everyone talk about tanks filled half way with water and plants sticking half way out (or even open topped aquariums) as growing plants immersed?

I got myself in over my head here!;) :p Hence, I must be immersed!

Maybe they've been confused by the warning on fully submersible heaters. :)
