I purchased a lion fish yesterday morning. The gentleman at the fs told me that the fish was used to eating frozen shrimp. The fish showed little interest, checked them out, then nothing. I have also tried live rosy red gold fish, which died fairly quick. They were the only thing that was readily available. Any help would be much appreciated.

try some brine or ghost shrimp

how long do i have. I live about three hours from the nearest store hard to make the trip quickly.

you should have seen it feed at the store
unless it's sickly...you may be fine...but I would go tonight fwiw..

try feeding it frozen a few times a day every day for a few days.
and then every once in a while, feed it a goldfish to at least keep it going, but not too often.

You may also try frozen krill or silversides. You can try using a feeding stick or wooden tongs. Wiggle the food in front of the fish, kind of making it look alive. Hopefully, the fish will decide to try and eat it. You might have to do this quite a few times to get it used to eating this way. Hopefully, your fish isn't sick and will decide to eat soon.

it may be stressed out and not eating because of that. I would give it a few days before really worrying about it. They are really tough fish, it can come around. I would try a little bit of food each day and see if he gets intrested.

do you have any seafood in your freezer...eg prawns, crabmeat, scallops, squid etc...this is what my lions eat...just let it thaw and then cut into smallish pieces...the way I got mine to eat non-live stuff was to cut into thinish strips resembling a shrimp and then I dropped it in front of the powerhead and they chased it down thinking that it was "real" food...now they eat from my fingers...

the whole tank gets brine in the mornings, this they will also eat...

hope this helps...

forgot to say, they are nighttime feeders, so you should try feeding him when the main light is off...

I just bought a lionfish also and was told he ate frozen krill. Well he doesn't (for me I saw him take it at the store). So I planed a trip to the LFS to get some feeders but when I came home from church this morning I noticed that one of the green chromis I bought for cycle was missing and my lionfish had a big belly. So I would check to see if he has eaten anything else first.
