I'm starting to get some algae on my plants that I've never seen before. It almost looks like a spider web, the way it spreads across in a thin layer. It's a nice green (like the green of a healthy lawn). Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I have a 40G with 2 55watt PC's. Photo period is 8 hours. I just starting dosing CO2 two weeks ago. I'm dosing 1b/2 sec.

These are water params from today:

  • KH - 5.28
  • pH - 7.1
  • NO3 - 20ppm
  • PO4 - .5ppm
  • GH - 8dH
  • Fe - .5ppm

I've been adding 3 drops of Kent Iron daily, and weekly capful of Flourish Trace.

Any ideas?

You need to bring up your bubble count and go for a target pH of 6.8. This will give you 25ppm CO2.
You also need to dose K, N, & P in addition to what you are already dosing. They are your Macros.
You've got a tank that is exactly the same as one of mine.
I dose 1/2 tsp per 20gals. of K at water change once a week
1/4 tsp per 20gal. of N 2x per week(or test and add as
(needed for 5-10ppm)
3-4 drops PO4 2x per week (or test and add as needed
for .5 - 1.0 ppm)
50% water change weekly to re set tank.
