Here some pictures of my freshwater tropical planted tank, I started this tank back in July of 06 and so far its been going great (other than a fungus problem in the its first couple of weeks and the ocassional green algae carpet). I like my current layout. I've removed 2 colorful resin ornaments as I prefer the more natural look now. I took out the corner box filter as well, didn't really need that.... Ofcourse I left the sunken battleship it because its just too awesome to take out! Im probably going to buy another small piece of malaysian driftwood and add some java moss in the corners. My digital camera is about 3 or 4 years old (Konica Minolta Dimage X20 2 megapixels) and i literally had to take 67 pictures to muster 8 or 9 good ones. Hope you like them:

Yes, I agree..I think they are wearing colors and flashing gang signs..hehe...NICE tank!

great shots!

and nice fish!

Nice!

thanks for the comments so far.

and unfortunate update: one of the otos has passed away. came home from school the other day to find it dead in the corner. i thought i did a really good job keeping the water parameters excellent and i spent an extra long time acclimating them. hopefully the other two will last the "crucial" first month. i might pick up 2 more later on though. and to think, it looked great in it's picture just a few days earlier!

beanerz- as much as i love my golden mystery snail, it's just a huge poop factory, although it does eat some of my algae. try getting MTS', Japanese Trapdoor's or Nerite snails. they have smaller less visible poop and they really love that natural algae.

BoyFriend tetras? Ooohhhhh, Black Phantom tetras, i get it. ;)

I agree with the above that the ship works in your tank... it's unique, don't think I've seen one like it (unless it's new and from petco/mart, I don't go there often). I like the simplicity of the tank: swords, ship, shrimp...and fish.

Looks like you've got a cyanobacteria problem, not algae (the common name: "blue-green algae" is misleading). Since the stuff if poisonous, it's possible that your lil otto grazed on it and that's why it is now dead.

I would suggest using blood worms to feed them, that way they're not tempted to graze the cyano (even though that's possibly why you bought them).

Reduce your light levels, or add quite a bit more plants, to try to control the cyano.
