Hey everyone, lately now that my 10 gallon tank is cycled I am going to start little by little re-arranging and adding plants/ornaments and such. I went to Wal-Mart today and seen in the plant section these Aquarium-ready plant bulbs which came in a pack of 5 which were only 2.00$ so I said why not and bought them. The species are called (Hybrid Ulvaceus) or Dwarf Lilly's for common slang. If you looked at the pictures included they say you just drop them in and in about 15 days a bulb she be sprouted guarenteed. I have done a little research on this plant and they seem pretty hardy. But reports of being excessively in runners of growing fast. My real question out of all this is should I go to the LFS and buy some Liquid Fertilizer or something? I dont walt these guys to wilt, anything that the syphon wont pick up if you know what I mean. Also I have had live plants in an older tank before and it made the water white/and cloudy. I dunno what should I do? I feel kinda unforgiven just to drop these bulbs in and see what happens like trial and error. Should I first try them in my 5gl tank which im cycling right now first to see what happens..???

Here are the pics of the package plus of the two tanks I could Put them in...

I'll have to break them into different posts to fit them in here..

mine grew like crazy under 1w per gal in a 20gal long. The tank was also recently cycled.

The Dwarf Lily is in the apongeton family [or so my box said]

So, I'd go for it

well crap since the image of the back image i took is way to big to fit on the forums i'll just forget about it, i think the admin should change the file size to at least 30k :( Anyways, i dunno if I should do it? Did it make your water turn cloudy?

also did you have to add that fertilizer for the plant or CO2 injection or anything advanced? Im really trying to avoid those things mainly because im not too good with plants... Do you have pics?

I did nothing to that tank, at all. And they grew CRAZY.

They should be fine in your tank. A standard bulb on the 20" 10 gallon hood is 15watts, so youre getting 1.5w per gallon. Thats even more than I had on my 20gal

I guess at the end of this week when I get fish and another cave i'll drop them in.

I am amazed! I am from Somerset too!

Good luck with the plant bulbs. I got some from wal-mart here and I don't think they have grown, not sure what happened to them, although they might be in my jungle somewhere!

I got some bulbs from Wal-Mart and they grew like crazy. I have one of those lights in my tank that looks blue. It didn't grow at all for months and then we put it in this tank (29 gallons) and it grew 6" the first day. It's now taller than the tank and sticks out a little.
