ok, the kit is as follows.
safety valve $23
reactor S $221
magnetic valve $206.35
pressure reducer $194
ph control delta $642
that comes to about $1200
is that reasonable or drastically overpriced.
that is in AUS $ and the parts are from the dupla range. i want the ph control so that i can have it fully automatic, though i would like it a little less pricy. any ideas?
look foward to your replies.

I was chatting with a guy in Australia on equipment prices there and is seems everything is overpriced there. However, that does seem pretty expensive. Is there somewhere else you could compare prices too?

I believe Big Al's will ship anywhere. Could be wrong but I think so.
Don't buy a tank. If you ask at enough bars or welding shops etc. somebody will have one sitting around and give it to you. Especially if it's inspection is out of date. And it only cost me about $15 to get the old junker I had re-certified. And I'll probably never see that one again anyway. What usually happens is, you take an empty one in and they give you a full one. Many places don't fill on site so they sent them out and give you a replacement.....whatever they have. That's another reason not to BUY a new one. Unless you find a place that will fill it immediately, on site, you'll never see it again anyway.

I would think to get a basic presurized co2 set up you don't need
half that stuff, so why get it? A good solonoid will allow you to automaticly turn off at night and if you wnat control of ph just add
a ph regulator (?) am I wrong about this?
Dupla $ is ridiculous here as they don't keep stocks of hardware in the country. If you buy a dupla unit, then you pay for them to import it from DK. I'd love to have one of their MH lights, but the price is a joke for that reason.
A couple of years ago, when I had too much money to play with (!) I bought a delta controller and reactor-S. It's pretty good, but if I were to do it again I'd
1. Get a 1000g canister and solenoid from a welding supply shop.
2. make a bubble counter from an old bottle.
3. stick one of those little co2 gauges (such as dupla's) in the tank.
4. put the solenoid on a day/night timer.
Sera hardware prices are much more reasonable here, but I don't know if their co2 kit is any good.
Buying online from the US can be a pain because Aussie import customs grab your stuff and then extort so much import tax that it works out to be the same price as buying from a shop here.
There really shold be one tax for commercial importers and another for direct end users... But that's another story.

Suggest you buy locally in Australia.
Tank and regulator. Look at a fire extinguisher supply place. Or a welding shop. Or maybe a "home beer brewing" supplier.
For needle valve, check out www.clippard.com and look for a local supplier in Australia. Their MNV-4k2 is what many people use. $10 US.
You don't need a solenoid - leave it on 24/7. You don't need a pH probe. YOu can do various diffusers - from a simple ceramic or glass airstone that produces fine bubbles or various DIY reactors you can hook into a canister filter to various reactors you can make and power with a small in-tank water pump.
Good luck.
