Yeah, when we breathe out, is that the same CO2 thats emitted from a co2 injection system?

In other words those bubbles you can blow into water through a straw, is that the same co2 that comes out of the co2 makers?

No, Im not planning to make a human CO2 injection system :) Just been wondering this...

In short, yes, but there's a lot more in your breath other than CO2. You actually exhale most of the oxygen that you breathe in as well. The yeast in DIY CO2 (if this is what you mean by CO2 makers) uses sugar as its source for energy and converts it to ethanol (yes, the same alcohol as what's in vodka) and carbon dioxide.

Nope. That's methane. Explosively flammable. All animals emit methane.

Don't smoke over your fish tank

Not to mention some of the wonderful, unsmoked chemicals from the tobacco which will infest your tank!!!

Actually, most of what we breathe in is nitrogen, air being only something like 22% oxygen. So what you breathe out is a mix of CO2, nitrogen and oxygen, among anything else your body needs to get rid of via the respiratory route, including water. For example, if you were loaded, you would also be exhaling alcohol, hence the 'breathalyzer' test.

You would get lightheaded very quickly blowing into your tank with a straw ;)

I think human farts can be sulfur dioxide, too, based on some I've witnessed. :(

Yes, they definitely can be...especially if the offending party was munching on egg-based products.

The worst ones are the rotting swamp plants farts. Smells of old rotten cabbage or collards or something.

Don't tell me you used to have contests:eek:

And please don't tell me you did anything involving Bic lighters;)

Hehe, funny, but I don't feed my guinea pigs broccoli, as much as they like it. Who would think two little critters could stink up an entire room?

actually, farts do have CO2. Think of all the ecoli bacteria in your intestinal tract. They produce CO2. I think what mixes in with the air produced by the bacteria in your system is what gives it the methane or whatever, properties. But dont shove off the notion that your farts are made of CO2.

Um... I think this thread has gone on far enough... if you want to talk more about the content of our breath and other... gases, move it to General Chit Chat =).
