Hi all - I've been having some ongoing issues in one of my tanks for a few weeks now... fungus/bacterial type problems but nothing totally out of control... The tank is a holding/grow out tank while I'm in the middle of moving soon, then I'm setting up a 220 gallon and a 130...
Anyhow, first I've noticed over the past few weeks my Clown Loach who's about 7-10 years old, has over the past few weeks been thinning out along the top of his body from his head back to his dorsal fin. He was always generally a muscular looking fish, but now it looks like he's gotten to lean, kind of like a long distance runner. I'm baffled because he is otherwise active, eating and acting normal... but I know this is not how he normally used to look.
My other problem is my juvenile Electric Blue Acara... over the past few days he has stopped eating (although yesterday he took a few small pieces of brine shrimp, but nothing today) and now his stomach has sunken in. This makes me think TB since he won't eat and is thinning. I would assume parasites if he were eating and thinning but he is not eating. He otherwise is actively swimming and behaving normally. I began using kanamaycin tonight...
Have also had recent water quality issues in the tank and had an ammonia spike up to .25, have been performing water changes every other day 20-30%, 0 nitrites, and nitrates at .5.. ph is typically low about 6 or less as my water is very soft. Using Prime to detoxify ammonia while tank catches up to ammonia, along with frequent water changes...
I'm assuming the worst here and I'm bummed. The tank is a little overstocked right now while I break down other tanks and prepare for a move, where I was going to move most of these guys into much larger homes.
If you have any experience with this stuff, please take a look at these pics and tell me what your thoughts are... Thank you for your help
