    Major Guppy issue

The danios are known fin nippers, so they could be part of the problem. The 'shaving' symptoms could be caused by either something from the dealer you purchased them from, or could be resulted from something in your tank. I'm thinking maybe in tryng to ivade the males, the female guppy may have...

Best Substrate for Goldie only Tank?

River rock gravel is likely to be a good option. I have it in my 55gal, but I don't have goldies in there, mostly smaller fish. It usually comes in some nice mixed earth tones and is pretty smooth. The type I have is pebble sized, but you might want to try to find something a little larger for...

how to do a MASSIVE pond clean out???

Don't see a problem with that, considering I use siphoned apple snail water on our garden. As long as you don't completely saturate the ground it should be fine, and the plants will thiank you.:)~Angela

The link doesn't work. How many gallons is it though?

    crayfish question

You should be able to get it at a fish or general pet store, but it usually comes in a large bag.

how to do a MASSIVE pond clean out???

Actually, my two tanks are on the floor of my bedroom, and I use the plastic tank siphons. It just takes alot of rapid pumping with the plastic tube end to get the water siphoning. You don't always need gravity to work with a siphon, I know it's hard, but it does work for me.

    Freshwater Clams in Oranda Tank??

I've heard they can be helpful, though I don't have any personal experience with them. I would think that you should have a sandy substrate for them, since that is what they usually prefer. About contamination, if the sellers are not being specific of the system they are coming from I wouldn't...

    crayfish question

Cuttebone is a decent additive for calcium, but it might also have to be replaced from time to time due to sliminess, and be an eye sore to your tank. You could also use Iodine or Liquid Calcium from Kent Marine. Use it at half dose if you do get it. It was reccomended to me since I got cherry...

    Opaline Gouramies

The shark isn't too bad actually. The most I've seen him do is get a little daryt towards other fish when they either get too close to his hiding spot or at feeding time. He's supposed to get 6 inches in length but he isn't there yet, since he must've only been 2 inches when I got him several...

    Opaline Gouramies

Well that's good news:). My plants have yet to get a bit taller, it's mainly groundcover right now. Some vals might be a good addition to the background and for the gouramies. Seems like with a large tank, you always end up wanting to add something else. Must be the more-fish-syndrome, since I...

    Opaline Gouramies

I'm thinking of possibly adding a pair or two of these to make my tank a mainly asian collection of flora and fuana, with the exception of the swordtails and the amazon sword. I posting becuase I don't know if I'm already stocked to the max or not. My tank species stats are as follows: 1...

    Hair Algae???

An imbalance in water chemistry, excess nutrients and not enough competing plants that utilize them. I could be wrong as far as the exact cause, but that's usually what brings about most algea outbreaks.

    25w Incandescent vs. 15w Flourescent?

Definitely stay with the florescents, that's usually what's used. Too much heat isn't very good for a small tank, and incandescents will likely only grow you algea problems. And don't worry about the wattage too much, because you've got plenty on there for a ten gallon. I'd say you have...

    Plants that Like Current

I have a creek near my house and it has some anacharis growing right at the high flow currents. Hornwart might also be an option, as it is pretty hardy in most conditions.

36 gallon patio pond and bluefin killifish

Hornwart is usually good for breeding purposes. It's a floating plant, but I'm not sure what killies regularly use, so I could be wrong.

how to do a MASSIVE pond clean out???

Well when you deal with water, your bound to get wet. If it isn't already drained, you could start by vacuuming the bottom of debris. I'm assuming you're familiar with the plastic siphons that are used for this purpose. By doing this, you'll be vacuuming the debris and drain out the old...

Hjalmar the koi is sick, whats wrong?

You might want to try Stress Coat, because this almost sounds like a slime problem, or it could be fungus related. I don't know exactly what you should do, but if you do use stress coat and this condition resolves then it was likely a slime related issue. But as for fungus, you may have to look...

    Shrimp- Iodine Question

I'm already noticing the differences! There are a few fat and rich red ones and then others who are more slender and clearer in pigmentation. I think they must've had a molt last night because I spotted a shed skin in the hornwart. So they are seeming to be doing well in my little ecosystem in a...

    Shrimp- Iodine Question

Thanx for all the advice.:) I picked up the supplies today, got the kent concentrated iodine and some cyclop-eeze wafers for them. The fish loved the food while the shrimp were busy grazing, but I think they'l get privy to it soon. I dosed the iodine today. However I just realized I dosed it in...
