New to Africans, stocking questions

ok, so maybe an all male peacock tank then...if i go that route then what's the best way to sex the peacocks? although i'm really tempted to just get about 10 of the assorted variety, since they are so colorful...

    New to Africans, stocking questions

ok, let me get this straightened out. the africans you usually see as "assorted" are typically mbunas? so i should pick out something like 12 fish (all i can afford right now!) and call it a tank? ooooh i'm excited! hmmm, so now. what if i accidentally get like, 2 females and 10 males? do all...

    New to Africans, stocking questions

The minnows need to go. Yeaaah the problem is I don't think I can catch them. I'll give it a shot, though!! The Fulu's are actually extinct in the wild, or so I hear. At work, we keep them in about 7.2 pH with all the other Africans (seperate tanks, of course) and they are pretty aggressive...

    New to Africans, stocking questions

well, I would gladly get rid of them. I don't even like them that much. I just don't think I can catch them. So I guess they can chill out in there for a bit. I'll probably end up catching them and taking them in a couple at a time, haha. Will I have enough room for a Syno or two?

    New to Africans, stocking questions

How difficult is it to breed these fish? I know the females are usually pretty drab, so I may end up going all male. Hmm, then again if I ever wanted to add some female to try to breed, I'm sure it'd be *quite* difficult to convince the other fish to accept them... Yeah the anubias is already in...

    New to Africans, stocking questions

Hello! I've got a 55g Central/South American cichlid tank that i'm clearing out in order to make way for some African cichlids. The tank is 55 gallons, has a hydor prime 20 canister filter, and is decorated with tons of driftwood, rocks, and fake/live plants. The live plants are large anubias...

    350g SA/CA Cichlid tank

WOW! where on earth did you find a tank that big? i'm so glad to see that SOMEONE in this world buys these large cichlids and actually has the ability to keep them until they are full grown. again, beautiful tank!

    Blue Rams with Keyholes?

i see no problem. i used to keep keyholes and rams together all the time! they are both so mild mannered. the four actually swam around together sometimes.

    Oily Film on water

like mr. firemouth said, it's mainly dissolved organic compounds. but there's more to add. lemme break it down. the canister filter normally fails to break the surface tension of water all the way across the surface in a long-ish tank, yeah? yeah. so what ends up happening is little...

    FM color

those guys look really awesome! what are you feeding? i have a pair that are about 1.5" that have almost that much color, but i know they could be more colorful.

    Blue Jack Dempsey

less aggressive than a regular jack, but still aggressive for sure. and they get a tad smaller, too. good tankmates would be severums, firemouths, and other low-end aggressive species.

    Convict tank mates?

giant danios all the way. a school of 4-6 should be sufficent. know that your convicts WILL. breed. and thus, WILL become territorial and aggressive (understatement of the year). my giant danios are thriving in a 55g with 2 salvini's, 1 green terror, 1 gold severum, and 2 teensy firemouths.

    mudskippers

not yet! but i'm ordering my trio of indian mudskippers at the end of may (gotta wait till school's out!) from what i've gathered: they are fairly territorial, but aggression is mainly limited to dorsal fin flaring they are carnivorous, and enjoy foods like freeze-dried/frozen krill...

need stocking suggestions for 75 gallon discus tank

i would go with 4-5 discus (if you can afford it!!), and some medium-sized tetras like emperors or kerry-blue tetras. a small school of cories should work as clean-up. have you considered a freshwater stingray as a tankmate?

    2.5g reef stocking?

i think they'll get too big. i used to have one, and after he'd molt his antenna span was enormous. it probably would have touched the front and back of the 2.5g. :[

    2.5g reef stocking?

right now it's about 68F. during the summer, though, it'll probably be hovering around 72. i've wanted one pretty much forever, but didn't want to sacrifice an entire tank for one...until now!

    2.5g reef stocking?

Hello! I currently have a 2.5g well established nanoreef. Tank stats when checked earlier this week were: Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5ppm pH: 8.2 SG: 1.023 In the tank there's about 1" of live sand, I'd guess 3lbs of live rock, 1 xenia frag, 1 large hair mushroom, 1 astera snail, 1...

6 month old mangroves suddenly dying

Hi! Did you get your mangrove problem figured out? I hope so. I have a question though! What are the plants in your tank besides the mangroves? Are they fakes? Right now my brackish tank is looking REAAALLY bare, and with mangroves 10 bucks a pop, I can't really afford to load my tank up with...
