Might do a low budget planted...

So we can say most definitely doable, but lighting will need to be revisited as part of plant selection then. That's enough for now; like I said I'm only thinking at this time. Thanks for the input, it's nice to know that I can likely make this happen.

Might do a low budget planted...

Great link. Gives me a good range. Looking at that I'd go with either the Current or Aqueon, though I've no idea yet. I like the price and feature range too. Would I really be missing anything by sticking with lower light plants? Since I don't have my heart set on anything in particular...

Might do a low budget planted...

Yeah, no tree, rockwork or driftwood will definitely happen. The layout would be imbalanced and favoring one side, but I think it'll look fine and I like a lot of openness. I'm not sure what plants I'd want. I want the carpet/field effect to some extent and a few taller plants would be fine as...

Might do a low budget planted...

So I've been sitting here with an empty 20G L and stand for a few years now (basically since I went to reef from FW) and I stumbled on various YouTube videos of planted tanks. I know I am not going to have something like Amano would build, but I'd like to do something at least similar, within...

Well, first off, sorrry for the lack of pdates. Been busy and have't been on the site. I bought 2 clowns, but they both died, presumably to some bonehead (me) thinking his uncycled tank was cycld. I just couldn't get them to eat, and then I discovered high ammonia. It's done, so ATM I'm...

    My octopus laid eggs

Will netting of some sort, or maybe a foam block, over oyur tank output help save them so you can run the skimmer?

Putting a chiller in the attic

I wonder if you could constantly pump the cold water though a copper pipe wrapped around a vinyl tube or something. Have tank water pumped through that tube rigged to a thermostat somehow. That way the cold water is always pumping, not into the tank, and your tank water only goes through when...

Been thinking some more about livestock. As far as the CUC goes, it strikes my that no two people agree, and I'm not saying that's bad. Because of that, as I said in the post above, I'm going to go with the LFSs advice. The framework will be around 10 each snails and crabs in a variety and 1...

Nope, gonna go to the LFS and roll with her advice.

    necigrads reef build

Well, I did a few things today. First off I flipped my FW and SW tanks around. Better walking flow. I also mounted my power strips to the wall and shorted the chiller lines. Much cleaner overall now. While I was shortening the chiller lines I eliminated the PVC on the chiller in line, and redid...

Putting a chiller in the attic

I've got an idea. Actually more of a concept. I wonder if there's a reliable way to build a small holding tank and bury it underground. It would be like a sump, but only to store water. You'd need a way to thermostatically control the pump for it. Anyone see what I'm getting at? I can't...

Putting a chiller in the attic

Any basement in FL would be it's own fish tank! If the garage is air conditioned that might be a better choice as suggested.

Putting a chiller in the attic

I think chillers need cooled areas to work. An attic in Florida would be fine in the winter, but I doubt the summer would go well. Also, don't forget about the condensation. Don't have that problem here in Vegas, but in Fl it's gotta be bad.

Sweet. Only need to keep one set of reagents then :-) TY.

    Thinking about adding copepods

Not for any particular reason, but I'm thinking about adding some copepods. My logic is that I don't think they'd hurt, and since I have a young tank they will have time to develop into a reproducing colony before I add in anything that will make them snacks. If this is a good idea, when...

    Test kits

Is there a difference in the common (ammonia, nitrate...) test kits for fresh and salt water? Is it just the cards? Specifically I'm talking about API,b ut I'd imagine it applies to all test kits.

    Disappearing Kuhlis

Khulis usually hide. And they hide ANYWHERE. If they MIGHT be able to fit, they probably went there.

It is rather vertical, but it was either that or forgo all the LR. I'm guessing that more LR is better then less. The other option is to break some of the LR up and toss it into one of the rear sump areas. I had planned on doing this origionally but haven't. I'm kinda waiting for folks to...

There's clearance all the way around except for the back right side. There will be about a 2 square inch area I can't get to :-(
