question on end of fishless cycle...

yes, if the tank has finished cycling. I said close to finished. I've never had a tank completely process ammonia but have so much excess nitrite, that's what I'm asking about.

thoughts on adding more tetra safe start

well, you should trust this stuff!!! my tank is now clearing ammonia after 5 days. I expect a full cycle by thursday or friday, which is super exciting! I don't ever plan to do a "pure" fishless cycle ever again. waiting 3+ weeks (how long it took me to do a fishless cycle last time) is just...

question on end of fishless cycle...

my tank is now clearing ammonia within 24hrs- I added more last night while ammonia was still around .5-1ppm and it's now 0. nitrites, however, are 5+ppm. I feel like I should add more ammonia but worry about a buildup of nitrite... should I add more or wait until the nitrite has gone down??

thoughts on adding more tetra safe start

I've used dr tim's one and only in the past with success to speed fishless cycles but have always had to order it online. for the fishless cycle in my 40g this time around I decided to try tetra safe start and it appears to be doing a pretty good job. I used the 8.45oz bottle (for up to...

    37T and 40B

what's the maintenance look like on the 40/how do the discus seem to be doing? I'm always curious about people who keep discus in more typical aquariums (rather than the hundred something gallon systems with sumps I typically see them in).

am I going to start a fire?

I bought it from a petco in NYC and go to school in rural Ohio; there are no petco's that I have the ability to get to (dont drive, none of my friends have a car, the county my school is in has no public transportation) I'll try contacting marineland, I guess

am I going to start a fire?

I got a marineland classic 4 for my dorm room to house my 2 male bettas and am running into some trouble... the way the wiring works is that the lighting runs off of a plug for the filter. unfortuately the filter does not seem to be working. the lights work fine, but the motor on the filter...

    want cycled tank at school...

I have a tank at home (40br) where I've been keeping my fish in breeder containers while we're here and I plan to leave the other tank at school and just bring the fish; that said I wont be taking them home for another break until summer at which time my parents are driving me back, so I'm not...

    want cycled tank at school...

10g is definitely too big; I need a tank small enough to carry on the bus and a 10g wont fit anywhere. im considering one of those 6g longs if i can find one, maybe. dividing it with a sponge is a good idea, though, thanks.

    want cycled tank at school...

im entering my second semester of college, I go back feb 2nd. I've had aquariums for eight years, set my first freshwater community up when I was ten and entered into reefs when I was twelve. I grew up in NYC, I go to school in rural OH. I suffer from chronic depression that gets worst in the...

should I add more? can I?

with all due respect, I've been keeping aquariums for like eight years now and I've always done sporadic water changes. I've never had any issues that weren't caused by introduced disease of unquarentined fish. I think I will just leave what's there there for now, maybe next summer I might up...

should I add more? can I?

so my 29g planted has been running for quite a while now and I think it may finally have cycled. the tanks is VERY densely planted with java ferns and has a handful of guppy grass and some pennywort floating at the top. current stock is: 1 female betta (grew her up from a teeny baby, she's now...

    Stocking my 20 gallon tank

I'd look into java fern for plants, they grow very easily and very quickly and have a nice deep green color, plus come in a few different leaf types (normal, needle leaf, trident leaf, etc) and you can get a good variety. IME java ferns are good to use for tanks where you want live plants but...

    Guppy problem

you say 'no high ammonia or nitrite' but does that mean their is still some present? if so, the tank has not completely cycled. if that's the case, I would continue with the single guppy who has outlasted the others until the tank has cycled fully, and then begin to add in more. are you...

    some questions

so right now the stock in my 29 is: 4 mollies (2 male balloons, 2 standard sized females) 5 black skirt tetras 1 male dwarf gourami 5 neons the left side of the tank is packed with java fern, and the right will soon have some kind of secondary species of plant or more java fern. currently it...

    Patrick's 40 Gallon

in my 29 I have a somewhat similar stock (black skirts and mollies, plus neons and a dwarf gourami). The black skirt school in the mix/upper water very loosely and are always out and about and visible, while the neons stay a bit lower in the water and tend to hang towards the back of the tank...

    10G stocking plan

to my knowledge there are 3 different color morphs: wild color (yellowish brown females, males have brighter yellow highlights on dorsals and red on their body, blue throats when breeding), golden (the red and gold is brighter on males, female are bright yellow with red highlights on eyes and...

    10G stocking plan

personally I'd do a honey gourami or maybe a m/f pair of honey gouramis instead of a dwarf. dwarf gouramis are just so much larger than the other fish, IMO it would just throw off the scaled down look of the tank. plus, I think the colors of the honey gouramis would look better with the...
