I'm picking up the tank next Saturday! I got a great deal on Craigslist. 75 gallon tank with a wood stand, canopy, 2 good sized fluval canister filters, another HOB, heater, and a bunch of accessories for $200!!!!!

    Jack Dempsey Tank?

Hi Everyone! I've been away from the hobby for quite a while and would like to start a tank again. I'm not really looking for a high maintenance planted tank and was thinking of having some Jack Dempsey's. I'd like to have a 75 gallon with a pair. My LFS is currently selling a breeding pain who...

    Copelandi Tetra

Does anyone have any info on this tetra? My LFS has a bunch of them for not very expensive. I'd never seen them before and they look very similar to serpaes, but are supposedly very docile. My tank is 40g planted and has 5 ottos, 16 dwarf cories, amano and red cherry shrimp. I also have two...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

Picked up 9 harleys today to start things off. I was able to get a bunch of filter media from my lfs, which is a trustworthy source. I'm going to wait at least a week before I get anything else. I think I'll complete the rasbora school then get the cories. Thanks about the comment on max...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

I just put this stock into aqadvisor: 10 espei rasboras 8 julii cories 2 ABNs 1 pearl gourami It says I'm 58% stocked. I know this site isn't an exact science, but is there something else I could add that I'm missing, that would still be ok w cherry shrimp? Sent from my iPad using...

That's definitely an option. How many do you think for this size tank with the aforementioned stocking? Sent from my iPad using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

Thanks! Now for some stocking decisions. I'd like to be able to have some shrimp, so an angel and larger tetras are out. I was thinking about a pearl gourami, some cories, a bristlenose or ottos (not both), but I'm stuck on a schooler. I've had cpds and rummies, and would maybe like to try...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

Got the scape done after a very fruitful trip to Uncle Ned's; which is AMAZING, btw. In the back left corner is an Ozelot sword. Next to that, but kinda hidden behind the wood is hygro augustifolia. In the center is a massive crypt spiralis. In the right corner is a stupid impulse purchase of...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

I actually live in NH, and Uncle Ned's is like 90 minutes away, but it beats my LFS with their old withering plants :) I'll update after I go and let you know how it was. From their website, it seems like a pretty sweet place.

    Fabulous! Thanks!

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

Thanks jpappy! I actually found a fish store in MA that seems to have a pretty good plant selection (according to their website), and actually has crypt parva. Uncle Ned's Fish Factory. I'm hoping to get that, some vals, maybe some more compact swords (maybe not too), and some hygro. I've been...

    Fert question

I'm in the process of setting up my 40B and was going to get this ( http://greenleafaquariums.com/aquarium-fertilizers-supplements/pps-pro-fertilizer-package.html# ) package of ferts. I know that some plants also need iron, and I don't see that in there. The tank has the 36" version of this (...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

Thanks! I just ordered some fissidens for the wood. I'm thinking of skipping a foreground plant and just leaving the sand and rocks. I don't want a superdemanding foreground plant and crypt parva seems to be hard to find... unless anyone knows of a good source ;) Maybe some vals or something...

New 40B and a return to the hobby. Yay!!!

I finally set it up!!! I ended up getting a stand instead of using the bureau. A 40B stand is shockingly difficult to find. I got one that would accommodate a 55-75. I made a very poor attempt to paint the stand, and will have to do about a million touch ups. Initially, I wanted to get a...

    T5 HO vs LED

Sweet. I'm going to go with this ( http://greenleafaquariums.com/aquarium-fertilizers-supplements/pps-pro-fertilizer-package.html ) for ferts.

    T5 HO vs LED

I really don't want to do CO2. Would this be too much light even if I dosed ferts and maybe excel, depending on the type of plants?

    T5 HO vs LED

I think I'm going to go with the 36" ray2. If I don't plan to have any reddish plants, do I need to supplement with separate LEDs?
