I've never noticed before, but I seen the local fish store with some kind of vegetable in their tropical community tanks.

What are they using? It almost looks like Cucumbers.

Should I use some in my community tank?

Thanks,

H.

Zucchini, cucumber, romaine (or other dark lettuce), peas.

The first three are normall sliced and frozen on a cookie sheet, then ziplock bagged in the freezer until needed. The are air or coldwater thawed before feeding. Peas from a can are microwaved in water a few seconds so that the out husk can be popped off before feeding.

Almost all suckermouth catfish need such in their diet, many veggie/algae grazing cichlids will relish such as well. Ditto for most live bearers and for a surpising number of schooling fish.

I'll feed my bottom feeders a few grains of cooked rice now and then.
