Right now my 90 gallon tank is set up for brackish but I wanted to eventually go to full marine if possible. I am using crushed coral in the tank and a Fluval 404 canister filter. I have seen a lot of stuff about protein skimmers and reverse osmosis filters but I really have no clue what they are. I have heard that RO filters will help reduse algae problems which i am starting to have right now but I don't know how they work. Do they connect to the tank itself or to the water display like a drinking water filter? What does a protein skimmer do? Will it benefit my tank now or is it only for marine tanks? I had a brackish tank about ten years ago but I really never had it running right but now that I am older I want to get a really nice set up and do it right. Thanks in advance.
