I have asked around and opinions seem to differ on whether to use a UV filter in combination with a Polarizer filter - or use them separately. What is your method or theory, and why.

Thanks...

I'm no expert, but I agree. Actually, I can't think of what a UV filter could interfere with. I'm sure there's something though.

I took a couple pics of thunderstorm clouds, and I don't think the polarizer worked ..... Meaning, I think I should take the UV filter off, then use the Polarizer.

I guess I need to experiment.......

My old Canon A-1 with the Cokin Polarizer was very noticeable. That was a "film" camera.. LOL

How many still have those 'antiques'? :D

I am no expert , but why don't you just use sunscreen for a uv filter. :D

My good cameras are film. I have a canon AE- 1 program and a T- 90. I have a digital for snapshots. Experimenting to get the effects you want is always the best I think. I find it helpful to keep notes in case I get an effect I wasn't shooting for but liked.

30+ is always good. But then again we are talking cameras, so don't take my word for it. ;)

I forget, but for best results of the Polarizer I think you need to be a certain direction from the sun.

That's very true, but sometimes you just can't be at that angle and I think the Polarizer would still help at least a little bit.

So far, I guess the UV in combination with the Polarizer is not the 'wrong' thing to do. The main reason for the UV filter is protecting that huge, expensive lens sticking out in front of the camera.
