I only have neon tetras right now, but I here its harder to breed neons then most tetras. Should I start off with another species for experience? If so, what are good, easier tetras to breed and rear?

Columbian Redfins are the easiest to breed ime. They're the only Tetres I've ever bred in a community tank without any effort beyond normal maintenance.

I would recommend that you start with Danios or Barbs. After you have got some skills then go over to tetras.

Easy ---Zebras, Tiger Barbs, Ruby Barbs, ect.

Next--Black Tetras, Emperors tetras, Columbians, ect.

Then ---Neons.

Definitely DO NOT start with neons.
