Hi Everyone...I need help. I just got a Chili coral 3 weeks ago but I think maybe something may be wrong with it. It was first placed in the bottom of the tank in the sand for the first 10 days as I was not home. I know they need a med. to strong flow so I tried to position him closer to the top of the tank on a rock with glue. Because the rock I wanted it on was HUGE I couldn't dry off the rock it was going to and so I patted the end of the coral and put a few drops of glue on the bottom of the coral and held it in place for a few minutes. It didn't really hold :( So I left it there hoping it would stay in place. The fingers of the coral laid down on the rock and remained that way for a couple of days. So I moved it a few days later to the other side of the tank and closer to a good flow and again it laid it's fingers down on the rock as shown in this picture and it remains that way. It LOOKS healthy, I don't see anything coming out for it to feed but I don't know if it has anything that extends out. It is in good light but it's my understanding that it doesn't need strong light but medium. So I feel the light and the flow are NOT issues but I don't know why it moves it fingers but just lays them down on the rock. It surely can't be the best position for feeding with one side against a rock and not in the flow of water or light. :( ANY HELP would be appreciated. Thanks!

what/how often are you feeding it?

it might be a lil stressed.

leave it alone for a few days and see if it inflates again.

I, too have a chili coral. It only extends to feed at night, and then it grows to twice its size. Try feeding it (reef chili, cyclopeeze, etc) awhile after the lights go out. See if it will feed then. Mine doesn't always come out at night to feed. I don't know if that is good or bad. I have mine placed on the sand bed partially covered by an overhanging rock.

I feed Phytofest, Roto Fest, Arcti Pods, along with Premium Red Calanus plankton (frozen) and Spirulina enriched frozen Brine Shrimp. I moved him today down to the sand and away from the MH. I usually feed early evening about 8 pm and MH go off about 10pm, low lights go off 11pm or so.

I've had him about 3 weeks now.

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS???? Thanks!

No, I have not seen it extend it's polyps at all to feed. I would think it would be feeding though after 3 weeks or it would look worse. It looks OK other then it just is laying down on the rock and now sand. I am going to leave it at the bottom for now and see what happens. I don't know what else to do for it :( I hope it doesn't die but I don't know what else to do for it :(

They need a huge supply of food. Most of the time they just don't do well at all in home tanks. You could attempt to stir your bottom or you could put them in your sump right in front of the inflow and hope for the best.

It's probably still stressed from being moved around a couple of times,If you've had it three weeks and have moved it two or three times it has'nt had time to settle in at one spot, hopefully it will be ok.Patience!

Am I feeding it the right stuff? Or should I switch to something else. I am feeding it twice a day or should I try more. I just don't see it extending to feed anytime during the day and I've checked at night with a moon light and haven't seen it feeding then either. :( Although he doesn't look any worse.

I'll take another picture tomorrow and post. Thanks, open to ALL suggestions. I did some research before I bought it and it didn't seem like a hard coral to care for :(

Thanks
