Hello;

My tank gets turned over ~10x/hr by the filter. I was wondering if a Dwarf Gourami would be able to thrive under this kind of flow rate. My instincts tell me no, since they normally live in stagnant ponds, but maybe some one else knows differently.

No, but I think they can handle it. They will find a slow area.

And, you need to remember that the conditions in which any species originally lived in is quite different from domestic conditions, and many generations later (unless wild caught, F1, F2, etc).

I have one in a tank that gets turned over 12x/hr and it does great. Reached full size, doesn't struggle to get food or anything. I think it'll be fine for you. I have a red flame dwarf gourami (Colisa lalia).

Can't fish develop their muscles eventually anyway?

I find that within reason my fish do develop their muscles, AngeTheDude. My Betta splendens get put into tanks with other fish that are more mobile than the average betta and they do get to where they can swim much better. There are still limits based on the genetic makeup of the fish but within those limits more exercise means stronger fish.
