When to upgrade tank?

Hello again y'all!

Ok, I know this is probably somewhere online... but I was wondering when I should get a bigger tank for my two fantails. They currently live in a 10 gallon tank and are both about 1.5 inches (not counting their tails). So, when should they be moved into a larger tank?

Hello Hawaii_Fantails, a bigger tank is always better. Goldfish produce lots of waste. Upgrading now before you start to have problems is a good idea. Minimum requirements for goldfish should be 10 gallons per fish. As they grow those minimums increase, for large goldfish 20-30 gallons is ideal for them.
 
29 gallon tank

Thanks avoxo for your response. There is a 29 gallon tank kit for sale at Walmart for under 80 dollars... I might just upgrade the filter if I decide to get it. I don't have room for a 60 gallon like I wanted, but thats ok.

The 29 gallon tank, would that be ok for my two goldfish? At 1.5" without tails now... and two tiny cory catfish for tank mates?

Hello Hawaii_Fantails, the 29 gallon is good for now but depending upon your goldfishes genetics it might not be enough. As far as the cory's I personally have no experience with these fish and can not give you a good answer. One thing to keep in mind that if it will fit in the goldfish’s mouth it will be eaten.
 
big goldfish

I just went to my friend's house last week and he has a 55 gallon tank and his goldfish in there is about 8 months old and it is the size of an orange! I am a little worried that my lil fantails wont last in my 10 gallon for long! They are both still around 1.5 without tails.

My bf has a comet, a london shebunkin (??), a common, and a pleco of some sort in a 25 gallon tank. His fish are all pretty huge now and very happy. The common is about 7 inches, and the other two are probably about 5 inches and his pleco is about 4 inches. So I'm sure that size tank for two goldfish and two corys are fine.

Thanks Yashinfan for your response. Nice pond site, by the way! My birthday is coming up so maybe I will get myself that 29 gallon tank for my bday.. and for my fish! haha! I better start making more room. Then I can have the 29 gallon AND my old 10 gallon! Yikes, what about my tv and playstation and nintendo and computer and bed??? LOL... gonna have several more roommates.. in TANKS! HAHA.
