To my knowledge there are three ways. One when they mate to see who lays the eggs and who fertilizes, two venting, which can be tricky and if you don't know what to look for just stresses the fish and doesn't accomplish anything and three disection, obviously not the preferred method if you are trying to get a breeding pair!
