So, I have this 110 gallon tank that housed Chester my 20 year old Clown Knife. Chester is the only fish I ever named. It also housed a 14 inch Sailfin Pleco that was about 12 years old. Buddy of mine had a bunch of yellow labs breeding and wanted to pare back the population so he gave me some to feed to Chester. 3 males survived. 2 are huge for yellow labs.

Since those survived I decided to add a few more. Well most didn't make it and it was getting really expensive feeding Chester Peacocks and Haps. So I bought a new tank for Chester (I call it his retirement home. Nothing in there but a piece of wood at each end of the tank for him to hide behind and plenty of swimming space).

Then I gutted this overgrown and under-maintained tank:

Got Milk?

So after setting up the new tank for Chester and using as much as I could out of the 10 to make the transition easier I filled the 110 back up and let it run a week or so.

Then I gutted the 110. Took as much of the water out and put the 3 yellow Labs, Male Kenyii and 1 Auratus in coolers filled with tank water.

I switched the substrate to white and black sand. Normally I rinse new gravel in a giant sieve. Well the sieve was too porous for the sand so I decided to just let the filter do it's thing.

Dumped the sand in, a few rocks for the few fish to hide behind and then the fish. This was taken about an hour after that:

The next morning

After about 9 hours of settling this is what I woke up to. You can see the sponge from an old Aquaclear Mini that I put on the end of the filter uptake.

The 23rd of January

So now it is aquascaped and the water is pretty clear. Not crystal yet but getting there. It has since gotten crystal clear.

My additions

Despite having way too much yellow with the Labs, Kenyii, and Auratis I bought this little guy. There is an outstanding LFS here in St. Louis called Beldt's. They got a major shipment in on Thursday of Africans. I was there Sat morning and got the pick of the litter.

Strawberry or Crystal Red Peacoc

This little guy is sweet but he doesn't eat much. He eats, just not with the gusto of the other fish. I hope he's OK because he has a chance to be the marquee fish of the tank

Syno anyone?

Got a SWEET deal on a Multipunk for $30. These are a little grainy. I had to take a video of him as he wouldn't sit still. Then I took screen shots of the video.
