Anacharis for filtration?

AFAIK, If you're looking for something that removes a lot of nutrients, you'll want to look for plants that grow quickly. Most of the plants that come to mind are stems like Hygro. polysperma, Rotala rotundifolia, Elodia/Egeria densa (pondweed), etc. Water sprite is great, it can be used as a floating plant and sucks up nutrients like a sponge.
If your fish are producing more NO3/PO4 than the plants are using, water changes are probably the easiest way to remove it, unless your tap water is high in NO3/PO4. If that's the case, I'd grab some fast growing stems or floating plants, that should help take care of it.

There are plenty of fast-growing plants that will remove excess nutrients. I'd recommend checking out the plant profiles on www.plantgeek.net.
And Blinky, just so you know, Elodea/Egeria densa (pondweed) is Anacharis.

Er... can we chalk that up to a lack of coffee this morning? I saw Anacharis, but read Aponogeton - I was picturing tubers, not stems. Wow, good thing I'm not working at the LFS right now!

Anacharis is excellent at waste absorbtion. I use it in veggie filters frequently. Just remove the excess periodically and compost it.
