I bought a single mushroom about a month ago at my LFS. It was unattached to anything but only cost $5 so I thought I'd try and see if I could make it go forth and multiply. I have to admit I was so nervous about doing this but it actually worked :dance2: There's now 4 of them on the piece of rock (two are out of view). Oh, and I thought I'd let my scooter blenny steal the show....

Shrooms and xenia are probably the easiest soft corals to propogate. Just give them room and lgiht--they take care of the rest. A single green mushroom ended up in the FO--there are now three! Always a good thing when corals are happy!

any thing you did diffrent from any other coral you had to make it split
This is the first time I've split anything manually. I followed some instructions I found while googling. It will also probably be the last time I mess with corals in this way. I would hate to destroy anything accidentally. Anyway my other mushrooms, xenia, ricordia, starbursts and zoas are spreading by themselves so I'll just let things take their own course. Note how I prefer the easier corals though :D

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! i didnt know you could split mushsrooms like that wow i would never try that

but glad it work for you

but unlucky for me, during my mushroom healing, a colony of copepod raid my mushroom and finish them....i cut into 4, now only left 2.....

Shrooms

I have propegated some shrooms and it's easy. I cut them of about a 1/4 inch from the base and you have the head.Attach it to or place it in a quiet spot--no major current so it will attach itself.you then have 2 since the base will regrow a new head-too cool.I put 3 in my 90 gal and know 6 months later I have 22.

That is cool. I have successfully fragged my star polyps, those are too easy. Just put a small rock next to the colony and within a month or two, they spread onto it. Then you just break the small rock away, place it in another section of the tank to make sure everything is ok, and BAM, they take off. I gave that piece to my brother-in-law.

I have another small rock waiting next to the colony now. I plan on trading this one in and getting some mushrooms.

My Xenia will be next. They took a little longer because like reiverix, I bought a dieing xenia colony for $7.00, to see if I could revive it, and it worked! I was down to 1 single xenia stem, and now I am back up to 6, in less than three months.

I plan to let the softies help fund my tank, that is a dream of mine anyways. Who knows if I will ever get there. At least I feel better knowing that in some small way, I am helping the hobby be self-sustaining!

just propegated my red-brown mushrooms and yellow gorgo .
I use veil/net method for mushrooms. But there is a problem with that method. If you do not place mushrooms into strong current algea will grow beneath the vail.
