HI I'M A NEW MEMBER THANKS TO GOOGLE I FOUND HERE. MY FISH HAS A PROBLEM AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. ACTUALLY I'M NOT INTERESTED IN AQUARIUM FISH TOO DEEPLY JUST BECAUSE I LIKE THEM I BOUGHT ONE A FEW MONTHS AGO I EVEN DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY CALL THAT KIND OF FISH. I MEAN THE PROBLEM IS THERE ARE BLACK SPOTS-MARKS ON THE FISH WHAT ARE THEY? AND WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR RAISING THIS KIND OF A FISH? (I'VE BEEN USING A FUNGU-STOP LIQUID FOR A WEEK BUT IT DOESN'T WORK)

THANKS..............

Hi, welcome to the forum.

you have what looks like a fancy gold fish. Many fancy gold fish have funny little growths on their heads, its pretty normal and nothing is wrong with them. I believe it is a physical trait that are breed into the fish. Is your fish acting normal, or has his behavior changed recently. Is this growth new or was it there when you bought him?

From your pictures it looks like you have the fish in a bowl. Goldfish are very messy and they can get to be about 8 inches long. They need a much bigger tank. A 10 or 20 gallon tank will not cost you very much, and once you add a filter it will probably reach about 30-40 dollars, a small price to pay for a fun and happy fish that if kept properly can live for 15 years. If you don't feel like you can care for this fish or give it the proper enviornment to live in please call your local fish store and ask if they will talk him back, most will if you call ahead.

If you decide to get any more fish, quickly google the fish and find out what its needs are. As an example, many fish can't live with goldfish because goldfish are coldewater fish and most fish on the market are tropical fish which require much higher temperature. Hope this helps.

I Don't Think These Are Normal. They Are Not Only On Its Head But Also On His Fins There Are The Strange Black Marks I Touched Them They Are Hard. There Wasn't Such A Thing When I Bought The Fish This Is New. Its Behaviours Are Generally Normal But Sometimes Especially When The Water Is Too Dirty It Behaves Too Slowly. Today I Changed The Water Just An Hour Ago Its Clean But Fish Looks Unhappy And Behaving Too Slowly It Stays Up Near The Surface Of The Water As If Trying To Get Air. But Sometimes It Bahaves Very Active Shaking His Had Like Crazy..:) ı'm Feeding It Regularly Not Too Much Not Too Little. And There Is Something Else When I Change Water A Few Times I Put Some Warm Even Nearly Hot Water (i Didn't Know That It Liked Cold) Could This Be The Reason The Black Spots?

Yes that could be one thing. Goldfish are cold water, they dont need a heater or nothing as long as there is a hole in a pond full of ice it will survive. You need to get that fish out of that tiny bowl. They are very dirty, and need at least 20 gallons to live comfy. They also need a filter. If you want something to keep in that bowl you should have gotten a Betta. Like the guy said before I would take the Goldfish back to the store you got and if they wont take him try somewhere else. I think that the spots are probably normal. I believe that he is acting like that because of the water being dirty and the small living quarters.

I don't think this could be the cause for the black spots. Some fish do develop cancer. There is not much you can do for that except make him happy. But if you used hot water when you changed his water that could be the reason he is at the surface gasping for air. The hotter the water is the less oxygen it can hold. So essentially if the water is too hott then the fish can suffocate.

Please don't believe this. It is a myth and a horrible one at that. Betta, just like any other fish need room to swim around. They need just as much room as any other fish their size, at least 2.5 gallons but preferably 5 gallons. I have my betta in a 20 gallon tank. They get along with many other fish too, just not their own. They also like warmer water; 80-82F and they need a filter. Bettas do have the ability to breath air but they would much rather use their gills just like every other fish. Gouramis are labyrinth fish too meaning they also have the ability to breathe air from the surface but no one would ever think to keep them in a small bowl without a heater or a filter. Do not believe that bettas can live in such conditions either. It is cruel to keep a betta in such conditions. There are lots of threads about the treatment of bettas, if you are curious then just enter betta in to the search tool at the top of the page.

As mentioned, you need to get your fish out of that bowl, and these can be burns from terrible water quality. How long have you had the fish, mdo you have a test kit, how often do you clean the water and what do you put in it?

Goldfish can turn colors, but no matter what, you are going to kill this fish keeping it in this bowl.

As others have said, a bowl is NO PLACE for a fish. If you were told it was okay, you were grossly misinformed. Goldfish get HUGE, they are notoriously dirty and produce a lot of waste and need room to swim. In fact, ONE goldfish should not be kept in under a 20-30 gallon tank. You need to either return that fish or upgrade to get a proper sized tank. Otherwise, that fish will certainly die.

If you are not interested in the fish, I suggest taking it back to where you got it. Fish require money just like any other animal and you have the responsibility of caring for it properly. :)

Do you know what cycling is? I can tell you that it can't happen in a goldfish bowl. Fish need certain bacteria to survive and those bacteria grow on filters. In a bowl, without filters, these bacteria cannot grow and keep the water stable.

As for the water temperature, don't ever add hot water to the bowl - especially for a coldwater fish! Try adding water that is room temperature. You need to get as close to the bowl water as possible.

Getting your fish out of that bowl is your first and foremost priority; don't worry about the spots, whatever they may be, until you have adequate housing. ALso, adding medications into a tiny bowl is a recipe for disaster. And until you can get another tank/return the fish, do a daily water change on that tank - using dechlorinated water ONLY - and keep it somewhere where the temperature isn't too warm or too cold (65-70F).

My overall suggestion is this: Return the fish until you have fully researched the care required for keeping fish - OR - research as fast as you can (starting in the freshwater general section on things such as stocking and cycling) and get a new tank ASAP and try to get on the right track with the cute little fish you have:)

Sorry to sound harsh:(

Once again..I couldnt have said it better Leopardess!! And to the other person I was only suggesting a Betta. I have my Betta in a 5 gallon filter, heated tank also. NO FISH should be in a tiny bowl like that. Like everybody else has stated the fish will die if you dont get it out of there.

first of all thank you all for help and the info.
I am really interested in that fish I like it. but unfortunately ı have very fair knowledge about raising a fish.

I asked where ı got that fish how to look after it ı also told them that ı was going to put in a bowl they said ok. now ı see that its not ok. :(

10-20 gallons is too much for me may be 5 or a little bit more will be enough. ı'm only putting a few marbles a small seashell a few drop of methylene and for two weeks a few drop of fungu-stop liquid thats all. I got the fish 2 months ago.

I'm still curious about that black spots now they are also on both of its cheeks not clear like the others but seems like under the skin. It doesn't seem to changing color this is something else.

I'm going to put it in a larger place. ı wish it will be fine.......

by the way I'm from Turkey so my English is only consists of ı learned here in school. that's why ı may have missed some details in your messages..........

and another thing how will I learn that my fish is male or female? (ı forgot to ask when ı bought it :o )

thaks again
