If money wasnt an issue Id go with a Eheim Pro Series 3 2078 and a 2217 Classic. Id go Rena Xp3 and AC 110 if on a budget.

I wasnt impressed with Marineland Canisters Eheims seem to be built so much better and so quiet.

I would choose option #3. The 2217 is rated for a 159 Gallon tank with a pump output of 264 GPH but when filled with recommended media the output is closer to 112 GPH.

And manufacture ratings are a joke, just so you know. My Magnum is rated for a 100g tank, I'd never have it running solo on a 100g tank though.

I also have a 2260 & I love it. Media does not come with this filter so it allows you to set it up any way you want. Mine uses 5 L of Ehfimech, Matala blue & black media cut to size, Ehfisubstrat & a blue/white fine pad cut to size.

nothin in between?

The eheims are the most reliable so i will DEFINATELY go that route. I have a Topfin HOB 55 for my 55 gallon that i can possibly dump into the 125 too.

I have heard good things about the FX5 too.

Honestly, is it is that hard to make a decision and to get everyone to agree on it, then all of the filters are pretty good!:grinyes:

the only person that needs to agree is you ;)

the 2026 and 28 eheims are EXCELLENT filters.. get a 28 if you can as its not much more expensive and you get an entire media basket more of room.

I have came to the solution then. It was none of the choices above, but I have a feeling it will be more then sufficient.

2 Eheim Classics 2217 - One on each side of the tank AND 1 Rena Filstar XP3 in the middle.

My plan was to use 1 eheim for mechanical filteration, and one for water purification. The XP3 will be responsible for the Co2 diffusion and Biological filteration.

How many Hydror in line heaters will I need? What do you think about this idea!?

A lot depends on the average temperature of the room you plan on keeping your tank in and what your fish require.

I am using one Hydor ETH 300 on my 220 Gallon (glass) Mbuna cichlid tank that is located in my heated basement. The average room temp in cold months is 68F.

Now the 2217 output hose is 12mm (1/2") so you can either go with the 200W heater (1/2" barb) or you can heat up the 1/2" hose & get it to fit over the 300W heater (5/8" barb).

The 2217 is my favorite filter of all time- When compared to the "professional" models, it shows that they are everything but. My 2217's have worked nonstop since the early 90's and are still going strong.

option #3 gets my vote. To tell you the truth, you could run this tank with only 1 2217 if you really wanted to....but back up is always nice.
