Growing green water should not be a problem. Just get a starter culture from somewhere (a garden pond will do nicely), add some nutrients (a pinch of fish food will suffice), keep filtration and current mild, and presto! Green water.

Of course, every time you scoop bugs from the tank, you'll be picking up algae too. The daphnia don't require green water; they do just fine on active yeast, filter squeezings, and powdered fish food.
