just a few simple suggestions..
1. do the rays really turn the sand up? if not, you could shorten the intakes a few inches and they may not suck up as much sand.
2. if you go looking for high $ filters, be sure to check out www.bigalsonline.com . they charge half of what the local store will charge you.
3. there is a bunch of ray keepers on www.predatoryfish.net message board. look under the Catfish and bottom dwellers forum.
