Also, no I will not be using live plants. I wanted to, but my dad is supervising this operation and said no (darn).

So what does he have against LIVE plants??lol

He says they are too much of a hassle (I don't think so).

Hassle?

Plant in tank. Set lighting schedule (if needed). Prune (if/when needed). Pretty simple (if you avoid the high demand plants).

I plan on getting 1 Angelfish, 10 Rummynose Tetras, and 6 Sterbai Cory Cats. Will the cory cats eat algae in my tank? If not, can someone recommend a fish that will eat algae, is from the amazon, and will be compatible in a 36 Gallon tank with Angelfish and Rummynoses?

Tank Filled Photos

I finished filling the tank with water! The heater, aerator, and filters are all running fine! The temp. is 78 Degrees F, and the pH is 7.8. Haven't yet gotten the Gh and Kh test kit, but when I do I will tell you the stats. Still haven't gotten a background yet (grrrr....).

The tank's been set up for 18 hours now, and the water is cloudy from something (not sure what). Does anyone know how long it will take for the tank to clear up? Also, can someone answer my question above?

Here are some pics. Sorry about the cloudy water. (You have to look sideways to see the last pic).

corys should eat some algea but they might not get it all, a bristle nose would be good id think, they max out at like 6 inches

The yellow tinge in the tank could be from leaching tannins in the driftwood. Its not harmful (actually helpful) but not attractive. If it is tannins, it will take water changes and time, until they stop leaching. My piece of driftwood is so large, its been leaching for over a year :(

Cory's will not eat algae, but they will eat up excess food on the bottom. Ive found there is nothing that does a great job of eating algae. If you find out, let me know! Ive got two vampire plecos, and as lovely as they are, I still have plenty of annoying algae.

I soaked my driftwood in buckets for a day, changing the water every hour (except at night), so I'm not sure why it still would be. If it is the driftwood, based on how large it is compared to yours, how long do you think it will leach tannins? Also, I think the water has a bit of a tint of tea coloration because I soaked a fourth of it in peat, so maybe after a few water changes it will be fine.

So, do you think I should get two bristlenose plecos for my tank, or should I just stick with 6 Sterbai Corys?
