Thanks very much for the advice about rinsing the thawed food. I didn't know about the phosphates, and I was quite upset to see the return of diatoms after I added the first fish and some food. I know algae feeds off nitrates -and- phosphates, I just didn't think the frozen food would be coated in phosphates. (although I think all the snails and crabs are glad to see the return of a small amount of their favorites snack!)
