Well, since I got my juvie discus 8/09 I didn't comment on this thread. But almost 10 months in, I can say discus are way more work than my other 7 or 8 tanks combined. It's all the same work, so no new tasks just way more water changes, feedings, cleanings. Oh yeah except I make food too, obsess over poo & behavior.
I told my husband these ("his") fish were going to be time consuming but we did take a short vacation a month ago. Every day he asked how I thought the discus were doing. I didn't worry as there was nothing we could do anyway. I'm as much or more a loach nut than discus fanatic but they are very needy fish.
