How do I tell if my carpet has died??

Well, I see the anemone is alive and well, so this response is obviously too late... however, just in case it happens again, or if anyone else needs to check an anemone, a snail, or most other inverts, it's quite simple: remove it from the water and SMELL IT

If there is a rotten smell, the animal is dead and should be removed as soon as possible. If it smells good (no strong smell, or smelling like the sea...) it is alive, and should be returned to the tank.
