Josh, the tannin coloration from peat can be removed by using Seachem Purigen coupled with filter floss.
Bur rather than do that, why don't you consider another supplier. dabradford mentioned someone in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Don't know who he is, or whether he's a breeder or an importer, but his fish do look quite good in the pics above.
There is an excellent importer/supplier of high quality discus not far from you in Galena, Ohio (near Columbus). It's Mike Beals of Central Ohio discus. He's about a 3 hour drive from you, which is quite doable for transport by car, or he will airship to Ann Arbor. Look up his web site to view his stock galleries & other info. He's a sponsor on simplydiscus.com and a very well-known, reputable provider of top quality fish. You won't go wrong with him.
