I've spent the last half hour watching YouTube videos of people building DIY light strips using PVC rain gutter and LED strip lighting. I'd like to try to DIY something myself to replace the aging twin tube 48" strip light I have on my 55 gallon tank.

I would like it to grow plants. I have found quite a few LED strip lights you can cut to length which are 5000K, which my research indicates is the color temperature of high noon daylight.

I also saw videos from people using 6500K LED flood lights to grow plants.

Is 6500K a better choice than 5000K? What about mixing 5000K and 6500K together? Would that be better?

I just posted in a thread about lighting. Take time to read it. I think it will give you an ideal of where to go and what to do. Good luck.

Do you enjoy DIY or trying to cut costs? I'm all for DIY but found DIY LED too daunting maybe too foreign really.
