I need to know these things before i buy a ph meter.

What is [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][SIZE=-1]calibration solution?
What does [/SIZE][/FONT][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]calibration a ph meter do?
Why do you have to calibrate the ph meter?

Calibration solution is a preset pH solution to represent a level of available hydrogen eg. 4.0, 7.0, or 10.0.

pH meters do not magically know the pH. It needs a standard to refer to typically 4.0, 7.0, 10.0. You can lose your standards if you lose power to your meter. This is very important in science applications. I calibrate mine every day at work.
