Sand for FBTs is fine. As for releasing the others, if you ever decide you do not want them any more, please do not release them back into the wild. The mass cultured foods that we feed our amphs can contain all sorts of nasties (even though most refuse to recognize it) that could harm the wild population. It is similar to releasing fish into the wild... Not good.
