I'd like a better pic, but that looks an awful lot like Pimephales promelas.

I think that is it. I found some at the local petco listed as rosy red minnows with the pimephales promelas as the species name. Makes sense. My wife won it at a local school festival an they were only 15 cents at petco. Now I have something to research. Thanks for the help everyone. And nice work SubRosa. Even with the bad pic I think you got it.

They're actually a pretty cool fish to work with. I used to breed them for use in aquatic bioassay work. Unlike most other Cyprinids which blindly scatter their eggs (and often eat them as fast as they can find them!) a male Fathead establishes a nest, courts females into it and then guards the eggs! It isn't quite like a Cichlid because once they become free swimming the young are on their own, but still very cool behaviour for a minnow! A 6" piece of 1.5" PVC cut in half lengthwise was what we used to spawn them on.
