I'm replacing my old mid sized Eheim Ecco on my 36 gallon .. I've had it for over 10 years now and it's still going strong, but I originally bought it for a smaller tank. I feel like it's not quite doing the job on the 36. I"ll keep it as a spare.

I like the waterflow design of the Fluval 6/7 series filters , it seems a bit different than most other canister filters. I'm waffling between the 307 and the 407. For a little bit more $ the 407 gives me an extra media tray, but I'm a little worried that it might be too much for a 36 gallon bowfront.

What say you all? Do you like your Fluval 406/7 and use it on a smaller tank? Is the waterflow design on these better than or about the same as your average canister filter?
