To remove algae on the glass simple get an algae scrubber. I believe the magnetic ones work well.

Okay, there are new developments so I am going to start a new thread. Suffice it to say, I took out the ornaments and cleaned up the algae and it seemed to be staying away (mostly) but the tank seemed to be stalled so I decided to tear it down and start over. Starting a new thread....
