It caught my eye today (& my kids!) and I immediately knew they were hatching Killies! I think it's kindof great, should get lots more people & kids interested in the hobby and maybe bring more attention to Killies and make them more common in the hobby? I know the usual objections, people will be keeping fish in too small containers in dirty water, but at least the instructions do say the fish need their water changed regularly once they're a week or so old. Which differs from the "Grow a Frog" kits that claim you NEVER have to change the water. :yuck: Anyway, just thought I'd see if you guys had heard of it and what you think!

Back in the 70's it was called "Fish in a Flash". The reason for Killies lack of popularity is all about availability. The non-annuals method of breeding, laying a few eggs daily over a period of time, isn't conducive to commercial production. The fact that the fry happily eat their younger siblings seals the deal. Annuals have a problem because even people who can't keep a fish alive for a year don't want to buy a fish with such a short lifespan, even if it's explained to them that they will live longer than a year. They always have been and always will be specialty fish.

No it's a granuloma from a Mycobacterial infection I had a few years back. I lanced it myself and it was too grisly to not get a pic of!
