I bought about 20 Red mangroves and did the same thing. I just have a 23w CFL about 1.5ft above the groves. And most are starting/already growing leaves!

So mangroves are for salt water right?
House plants are the only plants I am any good at growing in my aquarium and no need for CO2 or special lighting $$. I like your slider turtle

red mangroves are actually freshwater. They actually do alot better in freshwater than salt. Salt stunts their growth. I also don't do Co2 or anything, The light bulb was about $5 for a 2 pack.
