how important is an airstone at night?

If you don't have a solenoid at all, then that is a whole different ball game and you should monitor to see if you need an air stone.

not always a must but if you are running higher levels its likely you might need one.

I offer the suggestion that you consider using two timers to make your life simpler. You won't have to remember to turn things on and off. Timers are usually cheap after the 25th. One to control the lights and one for the solenoid. ;-)

they have one that has two ports for something like 15 dollars and a single port for 10 dollars.

With pressurized CO2 on a solenoid one wants two separate timers. And you want appliance timers not light timers. The difference is appliance timers are grounded.

The reason for two is the solenoid should turn off the CO2 half an hour or an hour before the lights shut off and it turn on the CO2 about half an hour after the lights come on.

For anyone looking for timers, who can wait, I always purchase mine December 26th. At least 50% off and sometimes 75%.

if you have a spare power strip get the one plug version and save a few bucks. plug the powerstrip into timer.do not overload the timer
