When bringing home feeders, I would quaratine for at least a month, feed a quality food with garlic - garlic is an excellent appetite enhancer, as well as a possible anti-parasitic - and dose the tank with praziquantel. Most breeders use prazi every fall when bringing pond fish indoors, or in spring for fish that have overwintered. It's a very gentle medication which will eliminate internal as well as external parasites. Bacterial or fungal issues will either show up or die off in quarantine, but parasites can be extremely difficult to detect, which is why I recommend the prazi.
Be sure your quarantine tank is large enough to account for growth while in QT. So for a comet, you would need at least a 40 gallon tank. With good food and care, even the scrawniest juvenile feeders can put on a lot of weight and length in a month.
