The tank is a 55 gallon with only 1 fish in it a parrot cichlid and 2 power filters. It is not planted and lighting is 2 fluorescent bulbs which seem to light correctly but are very old. I didn't add anything to the tank, the brown algae started when I was overfeeding and I have since corrected that but the algae still creeps up.
Which amount of peroxide shall I use for a 55 ga? Is it safe for my fish?

Thanks for the help guys

Changing your bulbs cannot hurt, and assuming normal T8 should be pretty cheap.
As for peroxide, you don't just add it to the tank, you spot treat the algae directly. In a nutshell use a pipette or something to squirt the peroxide directly onto the algae.

So long as you don't go to quick or do too much at once your fish should be fine. If you want specific amounts you should be able to google. I personally have never worried too much. But I have never rushed or tried to treat my whole tank at once.

And if it started with overfeeding, you might want to try switching foods too.

And still, the best way to know how to deal with this would be to identify the type of algae. More than one kind can be brown.
