Yes a 20 gallon is definately reccommended. Its all in the way the tank is setup though...

I had my pair in a community 20, then decided they needed thier own tank. I put them into a 10 gallon by themselves. It was decorated thick with wood, plants, and rocks. (see picture through the link in my sig). I successfully kept the pair in the 10 gallon, and they had multiple spawns which i grew up in the that tank with them and sold to the pet store.

The male will become rough with the female and vice versa when mating so its important to have lots of places for them to hide from each other, thus why the decoration is so important.
