Got some plants from another person local to me. I had some scraps left in a bucket with water in it for a few days. Today I'm throwing the plant bits out and see this tiny little black thing moving around. It looked like a shrimp, in freshwater.

Any idea? My female krib made a nice snack out of it.

Could be a scud (freshwater shrimp), or an insect larvae of some kind. Without more info than 'tiny little black thing', it's a total guess.

Haha! That's for sure! You really need a quarantine tank, even for plants. If I woulda done that, Aiptasia woulda never been introduced into my reeftank.

I always feel silly quarantineing plants, but I just took a good look at my q-tank and found all manner of aquatic life I've never had before I just bought some new potted plants a week or so ago. I now know what nemotodes look like, and have two or three un identifieds to figure out as well as some planara which I have never had in that tank before.
I always thought the q-tank concept was sound, but can't say I was always as religious about it as I am these days.
