Ah, you may be right there. I keep a bucket dedicated for fish duties. I almost had to sleep on the couch after I saw my wife try to use it to wash her car, lol. If that is the case, you may have lost some or all of your beneficial bacteria. Learning the science will become less of a chore over time. I used to never test my water, now it's part of the fun.
