The one I'm looking at has two 48" bulbs in it. I believe it said 108 watts. :headbang2:

Sounds better than 40 and it's less than 100 bucks. Is that enough? I guess it will fit on a 55.

Yes, that will work great for low/medium light plants.

If anyone can suggest anything for a 55, please respond.

Okay. I'll look locally for some new lighting before I order on-line.

If I get just the two bulbs and then someone says I don't have enough again, I'll just scream.

T-5's or Compact fluorescents are both fine. So are regular fluorescent as far as that goes. Just try to get about 100 watts, like you were looking at. Also try to get 6700k-10000k bulbs. In my fixtures, the 6700k bulbs are greener, and the 10000k bulbs are whiter with a slight bluish hue (I personally like the 10000k best). Some also come with a full spectrum. Any of these would do fine, don't just use regular household bulbs.

The bulb I have is an 18000k bulb.

Will I be able to use this bulb again or are the bulbs for the dual ones thinner?

If the bulb came in a regular light strip, that came with your tank, it is probably a t-8. It might say something on it like F40t8.... If it is a t-8 or a t-12, it cannot be used in a t-5 strip light. Yes the t-5's are thinner and higher wattage.

An 18,000K Aqua-Glo is a T10 bulb more than likely. It can usually be used in a fixture designed for T8 or T12 unless either have bulb-fitting waterproof endcaps. T5's take a different pin size plus are actually shorter by an inch or two and wont be interchangeable, so if you get the T5 unit you will need to buy T5 bulbs.

If you went any more than 2x54W T5HO you would be needing co2 and a good fert routine. But what many do is get something like a 4x bulb fixture and only run two, in case later on they want to add the co2 and stuff then they can flip the switch and run 4 bulbs. Or with a 4 bulb unit you could do a noon burst for a couple hours at full intesnity. Again, I'd only do that with co2 and ferts though. I'm not familiar with the Nova units but if they have good reflectors in them then even 2x54W and your bordeline on needing supplimental co2 and ferts... do you plan on having your tank more full of plants?
